Custom made Figurative Sculpture . Statues . Toys & Maquettes
For the Theme Atrraction .Collectible Merchandise . Art . Entertaiment Industry
.
The Process
The process begins with the submission of a sketch or image for the subject requesting to be sculpted (of which the client or entity has legal claim to ownership or granted
rights to). Details regarding scale, fabrication materials, budget costs,
time lines and directives are discussed. Although not necessary -
a non disclosure or a confidential agreement can precede the initial
discussion in some cases.
Constant communication between
client and the artist are maintained through every stage of the project's
progression.

Statues
and
Theme
attraction icons: Typically life size to medium statues and
character icons are indurated
fiberglass. The subjects are initially sculpted in high density
poly
urethane foam. This light weight, yet dense foam is paramount
for carving and creating fine detail. It is an exceptional product
that resists and accepts direct application of catalyzed resin products
(i.e: polyester resin) used for induration. Fiberglass Reinforced Product
"FRP" (polyester, epoxy, urethane or high strength gypsum)
is then applied to the subject making it virtually impact resistant.
The process of detailing and finishing are the final steps before
paint or other topcoats, such as
bonded
bronze, applications
are permitted to compliment the desired result.

Character
Maquettes and Prototypes: Maquettes
are small sculptures ranging in size from 2.5" to as large
as 16" tall. The materials used in the creation of a small
subject lend themselves to more forgiving modeling materials such
as wax, clay, or polymer based mediums. I can create maquettes in variety of materials
that best suit the client's intended use. For example: Master figure models that will
ultimately be produced in vinyl are generally sculpted in hard wax
(Castilene). Animation study maquettes, figurine and collectible
statuettes, or otherwise intended for molding and cold cast resin
production, are often sculpted in non hardening wax based clays.
Polymer
clay (e.g.: Super Sculpey) is also a convenient medium
that is commonly use by professional sculptors of all levels. Polymerclay sculptures can be baked, becomes hard and exhibits relatively
durable characteristics. Although durable; polymer clay subjects
can crack and rarely survive the mold making process in tact. If molding and casting
is being requested; It is for the interest of achieving a cast reproduction,
with an understanding that the original sculpture will be lost. Polymer clay
maquettes and sculptures not specifically intended for cast reproduction
are fortified with the addition of an epoxy based medium in areas
potentially susceptible to breakage (i.e; appendages and small
items. These (polymer) clay sculpts can be highly sought after since they
are revered as original art - and should be handled as such.
A
cast resin piece (requires a mold) may be desired if the subject is intended as a definitive
master, reusable asset or demands excessive portability. Maquettes
are finalized in a medium gray or matte primer finish which is best
suited for digital scanning. This gray color is typical to industry
standards since it visually allows for better display of detail
emphasizing subtle contrast between light and shadow as an aid to
animation character study. *Painted maquettes and collectible figurine
protos can be achieved. Color 'call outs' can be specified with submission(s).

Services: are defined as hand sculpted, custom
made figurative works and/or fabrication of characters, personalities
or otherwise convey characteristics which embody forms - "evoking
life". Robots and humanoids also fall into this category.....Giant
hammers and inanimate objects generally do not.
-
Molding and casting: The process of molding
and casting are laborious and can be costly while effecting a budget.
While I do offer this service, please understand that I am not a
manufacture who facilitates mass production. Therefore, I do not

-
An original design that has been requested for
me to sculpt.

A single large sculpture's feature or components
where it is necessary.
-
Objects/subjects that are designated to be cast
rigid or flexible material such as latex, urethane or silicone for the purpose of the final piece(s).
Maquettes & Resin castings:
Individual maquettes up to 20" tall, requested

*Molds made that facilitate a project - are disposable.
Any viable mold(s) are surrendered to the client at their request.
